Hermosa Beach Historical Society and Surf Film
1 Comment Published by popelynne April 12th, 2008 in Images-still /Film-moving. by popelynneThe first year celebration of Hermosa Beach Historical Society was 4/11/08.
Richard Koenig is the president. He should be for every reason imaginable including the heritage of his mother Maggie Koenig, (Hermosas oldest and youngest thinking resident.) Her husband built many of the historic structures in our City. Body Glove, Becker, Spyder and all the big surf name companies were on hand to celebrate.
Photographer and author Chris Miller was there, daughter of Warren Miller. And the wave of surfers from all generations were on hand to kick off the celebration and see the film shown in the Hermosa Civic Center.
My husband Bob Pope graduated from Mira Costa High school and surfed with the great ones. There we rubbed elbows with surfers of all ages, levels and had a great time.
The film is amazing and one everyone of us will buy when it is available. Its bound to be a new classic.

If you are really into it you could bring the music of the era of the house! Think about how fun that would be as a conversation point. I get a huge lift from music- along with everyone else in the world.
History lesson from Lynne is this. Ragtime, Dixieland, Blues, Jazz all are terms associated with my dad Knocky Parker, Dr.Jazz. He was a grammy nominated piano player. The album was with Big Joe Turner. It was the peak of his music career of over 60 albums. Ragtime was my favorite. He started out as a Light Crust Doughboy in Texas. I’ve been told they were the Beatles of that era in the south. He was born in 1918. They travelled and he plaid accordion if there was no piano. He learned ragtime at age 4 from Blind Lemon Jefferson in Palmer, Texas. That name brings a hush to anyone who knew of his talents. The town was home to the movie with Robert Duvall “Tender Mercies.”
Later we would travel to St Louis and he played at Gas Light square. Friends Trebor Tichner would meet and talk about music. Once I went to Preservation Hall in New Orleans and listened to the musicians jam together. Anyone coming to town was welcomed up to join in the music. When Disneyland opened up in Los Angeles, California they hired my dad to play. Such was a time and history gone by.
Cut to 2008 and see me at the Whiskey listening to www.Her Skeleton. Rock sounds with Chris Pope. If only dad could hear him.

3 Comments Published by popelynne April 12th, 2008 in Architectural Style. by popelynneI admit it. I absolutely love Historic homes. Owensboro, Kentucky had one street of beautiful big historic homes. As a child I was amazed by them much as kids today are passionate about Movie stars and Rock stars. Historic Home Stars!
Travels to St. Louis Mo, or Nashville , Tenn were a special treat in my youth. Places that made me drool with unique homes.
My summers in Texas added to my lust for Historic homes. When other kids were playing sports I was begging my family to stop the car and let me look at this or that home. I would sketch the main components out on lined writing paper. My cousin Rosemary would drive me with her to towns where we could see where relatives grew up around Palmer,Texas, Ennis. We would stop for a Dr Pepper or a snow cone. Wow, those were my drug of transformation. The ice cold joy on top of touring into older homes. Homes can actually make me cry with happiness or a sting of sorrow to one torn down. Windows, doors all carry a music of a bygone era, a sweet syncopation sound that mean love and heaven on earth in historic homes.

2 Comments Published by popelynne April 12th, 2008 in Education. by popelynneMost people don’t major in real estate or say when I grow up I want to be a realtor. Many of the kids of Realtors say they don’t want to work that hard. Many later and a few sooner join in. As a profession it was late to attract the attention of University preparation. In 2003 University relationships didn’t seem to be something big on the radar of the NAR. It was growing in local community colleges. I observed it change in Los Angeles about that time.
The explosion was kind of like the 100 monkeys. Its everywhere now. But University and Colleges are way behind the mighty new breed of Real Estate trainers. Here is my tip on where the money is going to be in the new internet breed of trainers. Move over Ferry, Buffini, Stump…..for the INTERNET.
Twins and USC grads Joey and James Bridges brought it to a whole new level. www.OnlineRealEstateSuccess.com/Members. They have a unique marketing talent and you can get in on the ground floor of their adventure.
I may have not been born into the Wright brothers, but I am blessed to know two differing pioneers, The bridges brothers, of the Global Trust Team. They are currently educating the individual real estate agents.
Years later I met Pat Kitano and Kevin Boer DomusConsulting Group. They are consulting a network of Business and Real Estate professionals. “Pat Kitano and Kevin Boer are the Managing Principals with the Domus Consulting Group. They are developing innovative blog networks with many major brokerages in the Bay Area. They author real estate blogs www.TransparentRealEstate.com and www.3Oceans; both were acclaimed ” Most Innovative Real Estate Blogs of 2007″ by Inman News.
The question of education in real estate is right here on this page. Can you see it?

Storytelling and the blog
0 Comments Published by popelynne April 3rd, 2008 in Spiritual Infinity Synergy. by popelynnePeople say how do you have time to blog. It is natural as breathing as taking a sip of tea it is sharing a story. I grew up in a long line of southern families that either were storytellers or stories told about them. I can’t sit still till I tell you the story of a teacher who thought she couldn’t buy a house. She is an art teacher. A beautiful- willowy -tall -sprite face and smile with twinkle green eyes and with a mountain of red hair. Can’t you just see her ? Put her in the inner city and have her teach art to sometimes interested kids who dodge bullets to get to school sometimes ( maybe)
She saved for 13 years to buy the house she thought she could never buy. Is this an oxymoron?
A Miracle the true story is a testimony of success.
I was one of the blessed people on her team to rescue her from the false belief of home ownership! She applied for a California assistance that I heard about the week before. She qualified. CAL HOFFA, and more. And only because her part time job had just ended a month before. She had a fico score above all the rest. She got the last money they doled out (on loan) for 2007. We went shopping on the first Saturday. We found the home that was almost not for sale (being taken off the market that day) The agent friend I had met knew of this house. The seller didn’t want to let us in…we begged shamelessly. We stepped over the dog bed ( seller was animal rescue) and looked out the window to the yard. I knew it when I saw the garage this was it. This one had everything on her list( I always get the buyers to make a wish list) The two of us pressed our faces against the window and we knew it. This was the house. The rest took 4 months, and it didn’t matter, because the seller had to fix up her home, the buyer was not in a rush after 13 years 4 ms seemed quick. She had to take courses on Saturdays to get the city loan and it was all good. It was a love fest. The seller/Realtor and the agent/Realtor and buyer became friends, and played cash flow and helped get a rescue dog a home, and they are runners and will run together. Its so good. Life is so good.
now here is the catch….this blog story or the newspaper story below…which do you like?
Newspaper story…teacher buys home after 13 years of hopeless saving. Real Estate at miserable lifetime low, even teachers can afford homes now with low home prices and low loans in Los Angeles.
Even the newspaper could use a story!
My new discovery…pass it along to anyone you know who loves storytelling. There is a place for us. storyteller.net, National Story telling network

0 Comments Published by popelynne April 3rd, 2008 in Education. by popelynneThe South Bay Board of Realtors offers an annual Mayor Breakfast meeting. This year the main theme was Transportation with aging sewer systems coming in a close second. These 2 are always related as to repair one the other stops.Seriously- In Palos Verdes the main issue is “aging sewer” systems as it can cause the caving in of streets. They are combining new concepts such as re-pipe with liners inside the crumbling remaining pipes. Its an expensive issue and also a mess. Call it the lawsuit starting to happen. Importantly- you can’t leave Palos Verdes without going through one of the towns in this report. The transportation issue affecting the following areas;
Top 10 issues surprise!1. Transportation45% of all the NATIONS goods go through
2. The State has not and my not be receiving the funds allocated to arrive. The elected officials have to fight to get it.3. Aging sewer systems. All built at the same time and falling apart at the same time. mostly the 1950’s The big growth after the War.4. The cities don’t all work together. WHY? Because…Some have Union issues separating, some have State and City money and some do not as independent charter towns.5. They do talk to each other and TRY to work together when and if possible.6. The States gives mandates…that the cities don’t have money to follow.7.

3 Comments Published by popelynne April 3rd, 2008 in Loans/Finance. by popelynneWake up America, Your country is shaking as the dragon of the FHA awakens and stretches. Lenders that did them years ago are coming back into the sunlight of
day and this is after the other Realtors from the 1990`s are selling foreclosures in droves. Some agents say Hey, let me into that market! You have to be kidding the other agents say back. I paid dearly for this place. I gave up family time, life energy and everything else as I ran with the tail of a tornado. Its a new day and FHA is the lender of the hour with a 3% down no nonsense loan. 15 year or 30 years and that is the top lending deal for 2008. The new price point is 729,750. in Los Angeles. So you can actually buy a home, That is if you have a job and pay stubs and money for gas for your car. Don’t give sour grapes to the dragon, this may be the sweet sleepy just woke up time that the dragon is nice.
