New Orleans Exodus - Thank God

Thank God for the safe Exodus of so many people in New Orleans.

exodus from New Orleans

Six degrees of separation…and so many people I know were in harms way over the last several days. The surreal experience is to be in Los Angeles with our family so safe over this holiday weekend. We attend church together every Sunday with our family including grand children. I had an open house after and family beach plans for Monday.

However- we joined so many of you for prayer for New Orleans families. Everyone prays differently, in so many languages, so many customs, so many beliefs. I used to pray in a childlike way, hopeful, sometimes scared and like tossing a ball out into the sky. I grew to greater confidence over the years and started with being grateful for the connection with “Our Father which art in heaven. ” I also work in prayer from a standpoint of strength. With God all things are possible. The lifting of thought and alliance with certain connection changed my experience completely. “We walk in the direction we look” is a quote that has helped me realize the importance of my part in any situation. I will be looking for the good, the best in every situation.

To read a first hand report from a wonderful blogger this is her story of the exodus from New Orleans and Hurricane Gustov. It is amazing, detailed and will also introduce you to her organization Professional Story tellers online. She sent me this email. It is her invitation to everyone to know the story. If you know any storytellers that should know her story…She wants you to invite them and include them.

Dianne de Las Casas, Author, Award-Winning Storyteller has sent you a message on Professional Storyteller.

Friends:

Here in the New Orleans area where I live, a mandatory evacuation order has been issued by 8am tomorrow (August 31, 2008). The airport is closed and my oldest daughter (Soleil, age 8) is in Houston, visiting her boyfriend. Her flight home was canceled so we have her rerouted to Birmingham, AL, where my family and I are heading. We have a hotel room and hope they don’t give it away. That happened to us during Katrina.

It’s hard to believe it’s happening again! But we are focused on keeping our family safe and out of harm’s way. My heart goes out to all the residents of the Gulf Coast who, like us, have to evacuate and prepare for the worst. Storm surge is predicted to be 15-24 feet. They say our area will receive more water than we have ever seen in our lifetime. I am frightened but hopeful.

My website will have live updates via Twitter. http://www.storyconnection.net. I will be blogging on the road (I can do that from my phone as long as my cell phone works). If you would like to follow, my blog is http://www.storyconnection.net/blog. I will also be checking my email as often as possible from my phone. If you need to reach me urgently, email my webmaster, Heidi Hafner, at hafnerdesigns@gmail.com.

I am evacuating with my husband, my daughter, Eliana (8), my stepdad, my mom, and my brother’s four children. My brother is a police officer and had to stay behind as emergency personnel. He will be keeping us apprised on the situation in the New Orleans area as long as we do not lose communication with him. My mother-in-law is in Baton Rouge with my sister-in-law. My family and I are evacuating in four vehicles. We will keep in touch via 2 way radios. We have food, water, first aid provisions, and other necessary items.

Thank you all for your prayers and your well-wishes. To all my friends in the hurricane danger zone (Louisiana and the Gulf Coast), Godspeed and safe travels. I will be praying for all of us…

Warmly,
Dianne

surfing

Hooray Mira Costa…congratulations to Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach!

Congratulations to schools that made the top list in high schools in our South Bay area

Other local South Bay area High Schools were:

Palos Verdes High and Palos Verdes Peninsula High plus Private school-Chadwick

West High for Torrance

Hawthorne Math and Science Academy for Hawthorne, CA

I will always care about schools first! My parents were teachers. Mother taught High school English and my dad was a College professor with a PHD in English. Sorry it didn’t rub off. They were perfect and I just want to have fun. I sure love to read!

My husband Bob Pope and his sister Pati graduated from Mira Costa High when they lived in Hermosa Beach where they moved in 1960. Bob enjoyed surfing and school and Pati grew up to be…a teacher!!

What more can I say about Mira Costa. I have attended the reunions- they are wonderful and the group meet the next morning and surf. If you want to really know more about our community and mira costa there is so much to learn from Hermosa Historical Society with emphasis on architecture and surfing…oh yes- its what makes us unique. And Mira Costa High is all over the globe in outstanding athletes. It is the starting ground for so many key entrances to College sports. And what about the Theatre Department? I have attended so many of the plays there. Those two are just a start to what Mira Costa has that you can learn about. How about our locals in Beach Volleyball - Soccer -Swim teams or the Olympics?

How to get your low-ball offer accepted!

carwash-image.jpg

Do you feel Hosed? OR Don’t rain on my parade! OR Take a new view of the low-ball offer and learn

What a concept. I just read James Wexler in Arizona who wrote come compelling points about this subject. Up till now I adopted the current Realtor assumption that Leprosy is on par with the low-ball offer.

This guy turns it around and gives some nice answers to give your seller. Why it is happening and some ideas of how to arrive at some balance and opportunity. I invite you to share good ideas of how to get a low-ball offer written and accepted too?

Thanks for thinking of this in a new light! Will Arizona issues work the same in California? I think so, this is one issue that has no state lines.

Missions in California-candlelight tour coming!

I just read a great blog on the Mission San Luis Rey on Oceanside and I don’t want you to miss out on it.

Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside - A Bit of California History (LOCALISM FEATURED)

When I moved to California from Kentucky and Florida I learned about the Missions.

My very first mission experience was in Lompoc. Mission La Purisma. I heard about the candlelight tour and signed up. It was one of the absolute TOP things I have ever done -over Disneyland, any theme park, even Shamu! And the opportunity is coming your way.

October 10-11 they are having the candlelight tour. It sells out every year.

Imagine. walking with a small group led by a little lady with a lantern to the sunset pouring through the mission openings. As we walk we see a group of Indians at their fire and a pony and rider gallop by. The bell, the experience is truly a reenactment of the olden days. The window vignettes show many themes of the mission. The Lovely lady with a Spanish mantilla, a family making chapatas…at the table, the military men talking at a roaring fire. Finally a big finale with a friar tuck and food tables laden with food made by locals. Have I tempted you yet to say 40 dollars a ticket is worth it for each of your children and for the child in you? Check out the details and email me with thanks if you love it like we did.

http://www.lapurisimamission.org/ the info says call before July 1 to obtain information and procedures. Call (805) 733-3713 I hope you get in!

Hazard Reports-Lawsuit

Saturday LA Times article on Real Estate by Peter Y.Hong states that brokerage firms settle litigation and deny wrong doing.

This leads me to say several things to the public. The Hazard Report is an important 3rd party information system that Realtors highly regard.

I have attended informative sessions and visited Property I. D. offices. They have a strong company

The facts that the hazard report provides in every transaction is truly essential. Palos Verdes and Malibu have “fire areas”, Torrance has a section with “soils” issues that need owner awareness and care, Airports, land issues and every potential hazard is outlined in these reports.

The issue is not the report but if the referral has a kickback. Buyers can have several choices of companies in Hazard reports. Some companies have more detail than others. Like a cliff notes version, or the Mercades. It is good to see the variety of reports to choose the one you think will give you the most information.

The “clue report” is an additional report that shows any insurance claims. Many companies from insurance to hazard report companies can research that for the buyer.

My hope is that the truth in this situation and the correction will lead people to greater trust than less. Buyers and Sellers do have choices. Realtors have found companies that they trust for accuracy, timely delivery and service. This is a balance of referral that is not about money passing hands back and forth but about relationships and trust. We can tell you about the many options.

Another Point-of-Sale Mandate that C.A.R. is opposed to. Should county lawyers review every deed and remove obsolete, illegal restrictions from Historic title records? Picture your family trying to buy or sell only to find out that an additonal 500- 1000 dollars would be needed to erase the old history off the books?

Its about the old discrimination stuff that is invalid from existing LAW.

The county can’t afford to take on another burden.

To clean up the old record of wrongful discrimination is too little too late and will hinder and add a burden to the heavy state of STATE finances. We aren’t going to erase history and leave our future children to look at an illusio

For the last year I have been blogging. I closed 2 transactions as a result of blogging. I simple wrote what I wanted to about my area and one day got the phone call to come list their house. I thought it was a joke, at first. The family was being relocated to Washington DC and if they got it sold through a realtor it would save them money over the service that takes a fee from the realtor. They had looked up my number and several others and called. After listening to our voices they hired me on my level of enthusiasm.

I sold their home, I sold another home from an open house on that home. So blogging was now a reliable resource that does what we have always heard….Do what you love and rewards will follow. Remember “What Color is your Parachute?” I read that book over and over hoping that it was true. Long story short I found Real Estate and it used all the talents that I was not willing to part time with. Writing, Photography, healing, reading, spending time helping people, Architecture, Historic homes, Film, Design, Music and Art. It’s amazing but I actually use all that in my work.

INMAN is in San Francisco 2008

125×125_connect_button1.gifThis July 22-25 the INMAN conference is going to ROCK.

There are lots of people going and the numbers will increase each day. There is a seeming shortage of these round blue buttons. You can go online and only get a square one now. Go to INMAN.com and check out the conference. You can call Katy in the blogging area of the conference and the details will be spelled out of joining and coming to the conference.

How does this affect the community hoping to sell their homes? To ask a blogger just ask how easy is it to stay on top of your game. Getting on top in Real Estate, news, new legal changes, new communication techniques. Reading blogs and INMAN news is the way most of the people I know are doing it. Yes I am twittering and twirl and its still so new I feel like I am trying a hoola hoop for the first time. If you are a Realtor reader…..you will want to check this out. This could be your year.

If you are a buyer or seller and reading this, hooray. You will know your realtor is continuing in education. It is my privilidge to bring experience back to my clients.
