Beach Activities in “South Bay” of Los Angeles
0 Comments Published by popelynne May 30th, 2008 in Palos Verdes Estates real estate, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach. by popelynneThe South Bay of Southern California includes several beach communities. Cultural centers abound, and recreational activities are seemingly limitless in supply. Each South Bay community offers a truly unmatched quality of life. Beaches are breathtaking, and nearby mountain ranges form a scenic embrace. From surfing to skiing, the south bay has it all. It is no wonder that, for an ever-increasing number of families. The cities in the South Bay are El Segundo, Manhattan Beach,Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Palos Verdes. The inferance is that these cities touch the water. All have a different unique size, shape, and feature of activity. The one consistant is to go see the sunset. The Sunset at the water calls out to everyone nearby to come stop for a short time and really be with the beautiful close of the sun on the ocean and sky.
Surfing, Swimming, sunning, dining, skimboarding, kite surfing, walking, and on and on.
Shopping at specific surf shops. One favorite is Beckers Surf Shop on Pier Ave. This is the place to buy surfboards, clothing and attire inc watches and sunglasses.
Parking here is not easy. Just a fact to consider.

Twitter Freedom to speak
0 Comments Published by popelynne May 30th, 2008 in Hermosa Beach. by popelynneTwitter is finding its way into becoming the shorthand of speaking. To join is easy. Just go to twitter.com and when you sign up you get a list of all the people you email to and you can select all or just a few.
The next thing is to create a twitter group. This could be church to business, volleyball groups to your kids play group list. Each group becames a file in your cell phone even. Yes the cell phone and your text message group can now easily find each other.
Will this leave the digg or the poke out in the cold? Who knows? But as Wired brought us the great article in the May issue of Wired Magazine there were a lot of great blogs about it. What is free to the public grows and guess what will get behind that? Yes, you guessed it “Advertising” Just go anywhere and the “Billboard” will arrive shortly. You may walk in the park and look at the trees and your cell phone beeps and you have a twitter- twirl, even chirp from your friend. So Tweet.

Hermosa Beach schools scores 909 out of 1000
0 Comments Published by popelynne May 29th, 2008 in Hermosa Beach. by popelynneThats right Hermosa Beach schools rank right up with Manhattan Beach and Palos Verdes school scores. Further, the State Officials ranked Valley School in the top 10 % of California Schools. The index of measurement is called “Star” testing for grades 3 through 8th was 903 and Hermosa View with Kindergarden through 2nd grade scored 909. The town is sandwiched between Redondo and Manhattan Beach and has the school system that they can boast about. After graduation they move up to Mira Costa High School and have a choice of Redondo High as well. In the last few years the students have seemed to go where their friends go. Some things never seem to change.
I have first hand experience with the schools for our family. It could be a great place to move. The beach allows a great place to relax when out of school or work. We call it vacation at home.
22nd street Hermosa Beach
0 Comments Published by popelynne May 26th, 2008 in Hermosa Beach. by popelynneMemorial Day in Hermosa was picture perfect. The flags were flying and people were at the beach getting a tan before the Lifeguard was on duty.
We went to the Hermosa Fair yesterday. I was glad it didn’t rain out. Lots of vendors were there from popcorn to toe rings. Getting a job as a lifeguard requires the best and fastest time. That is another day. One fun mention is that the stand up rowing surfer was out today. Tons of pelican, 2 dolphin and lot of families.
Beach etiquette! One family came over and put their towels down right in front of us. The beach was nearly empty. I spoke up and asked them to move over to the left so we could see the kids in the surf. Yea…they were just not thinking or didn’t know any other way to go to the beach.

My husbands home town since 1960! We Hermosa Beach is a small artsy beach town with wide, sandy beaches and a more laid back life style. The Los Angeles Magazine has named Hermosa an “outstanding coastal town” praising many of its businesses and shops. From traditional Surf and Turf to more exotic cuisines, from Comedy to Jazz, Hermosa Beach has many fine dining and entertainment places from which to choose.

The downtown area has been recently remolded with a wide walk way between the many local stores and restaurants. Hermosa is home to many surf festivals and an annual art festival. A local Farmers Market is held every Friday offering all types of produce and flowers. Hermosa has a bicycle path and of course great sailing and water sports. Hermosa Beach offers a variety of Southern California housing options for any lifestyle including condos, townhomes, and single family homes. There are residences on the Strand, bungalows scattered throughout the town, and multilevel homes in the hills with ocean views. Hermosa truly has it all. |
