Last year I sold a home to a wonderful teacher with 2 male cats. The previous owner was a dog rescuer who moved about 3 miles away. She has 3 male labs, as rescues that stayed.

As told to me…The racket going on at the back door was beyond belief. The next thing I know the old dog door was ripped off its screws and in burst Buddy one of Sandys dogs. I scooped up my boys (her two cats) and tossed them into the bedroom for Buddys safety.

After greeting Buddy and getting him water and trying to get him out to the back yard (which he refused) he lay down at my feet and went to sleep. I called Sandy and she was out of the area and could not get there for another hour. He slept peacefully the entire time. She was stunned as she didn’t know he had escaped. Her other dogs actually stayed home, we later discovered. When she got there it took a lot of talking to Buddy. “This isn’t our home anymore” she told him. He just didn’t want to leave. Finally, he did go but we understood his concerns. Moving is not easy on humans or pets. Buddy really likes his old home.
